On March 15, 2022, President Biden signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022. This law temporarily renews certain relief for plans that provide coverage for telehealth and other remote care services before the high deductible health plan (HDHP) minimum deductible is satisfied – without losing HDHP status, and without adversely affecting a plan member’s health savings account (HSA).
CAA is similar to provisions in the CARES Act which allowed HDHPs to provide optional relief, provided the plan sponsor agreed to do so and amended the plan. The CARES Act ended on December 31, 2021. This new law reinstates the relief but only during the months beginning April 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2022.
