“From 2016 to 2020, MedBen’s municipality block averaged a minimal 1% annual trend on total claims costs,” said MedBen VP of Sales & Marketing Brian Fargus at the MedBen University Virtual Municipality Roundtable on April 15. Over 75 clients and brokers attended the online event.Fargus and other MedBen presenters highlighted some of the reasons accounting for the low trend:
- Most municipality clients use MedBen Rx pharmacy solutions to lower their drug costs. Muni groups with MedBen Rx spent an average of 11.2% less than groups using other PBMs.
- Over two-thirds of municipality clients use direct-to-employer contracting or a reference-based pricing plan. These groups spent 17.4% less on average compared to traditional PPO plans.
- Municipality clients taking a proactive wellness approach with MedBen WellLiving paid an average of 13.5% less in claim costs compared to non-WellLiving muni groups.
