Over 70 clients and brokers attended the MedBen University (MBU) Virtual Roundtable on April 29. The online event, open to both public and private employers, highlighted recent cost and utilization trends by industry and product.
MedBen’s net claims cost trend from 2016 to 2020 averaged a minimal 2.3%… well below national norms. A review of product-based trends also found:
- From 2018 to 2020, MedBen clients who used alternative reimbursement strategies like reference-based pricing or direct-to-employer contracting trended at 1.1% compared to 2.4% for those using traditional PPO plans.
- Trend for clients using MedBen WellLiving preventive care programs was just 0.9% from 2016 to 2020, compared to 2.8% trend for non-WellLiving clients.
- Clients using MedBen Rx “Cost Plus” pricing averaged a 2.4% Rx cost trend per employee in 2020, compared to 11.2% for those using other PBMs.
