A Fortune 500 company recently filed a lawsuit against a national third-party administrator for refusing to turn over requested claims data. It’s the latest in a series of legal actions taken by employer health plans against insurers for failing to share data.
In its suit, the plaintiff asks for access to their data, citing reports of “instances where opportunistic claims administrators have employed illegal or unethical means to obtain windfall profits – at the expense of self-funded plans and taxpayers alike.”
MedBen takes a wholly different position on the matter: It’s your data. Not only is giving you access to your data the smart thing to do, it’s the right thing to do.
MedBen clients have multiple avenues to access their claims data, including monthly reporting and quarterly plan reviews. Additionally, the MedBen Analytics employer dashboard allows you to track claim trends and find savings opportunities.
It’s equally important to emphasize that MedBen respects the privacy rights of plan members. We follow HIPAA rules regarding how protected information can be shared and who can access it, including MedBen employees.
Finally, MedBen will never sell your data to any vendor or outside company. If you ever have questions about how we maintain client privacy, contact Caroline Fraker or Erin Kelly in our Compliance Department.
