A new study serves as a reminder that wellness promotes a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. According to an international team of researchers, there is a direct link between high blood pressure and dementia.
Using information from genetic and imaging data and observational analyses, the researchers found that nine areas of the brain saw changes related to higher blood pressure and impaired cognitive function. These include areas responsible for regulating movement, managing emotions, and making decisions.
“When we checked our findings by studying a group of patients in Italy who had high blood pressure, we found that the parts of the brain we had identified were indeed affected,” said lead author Tomasz Guzik.
